I don’t even know where to begin with this family. I feel a kinship and attachment to them that goes beyond even my deepest friendships. They were my family in nearly every sense of the word when I was living in Australia, half a world away from my parents and first home of Kansas. They saw me through some of the best and most definitely worst times of my life. They are in a very elite group of people I’m honored to call my best friends.
Over my last two visits to Australia, I really wanted to get enough pictures to surprise them with a family lifestyle album. Unfortunately, time constraints (and gastro virus) kept me from getting enough pictures to justify an album, but I didn’t walk away empty handed.
I know a lot of amazing people. Amazing parents. Amazing children. Amazing husbands and wives. Amazing Christians. Amazing humans. The Pannells top that list. They are an example by which, if I could bottle up and spread to everyone, it would be a much better world to live in.
I wish I could have a special claim on them, but I know that every person who has crossed in their path has been treated with as much love as they treated me and has felt as special. That’s just how awesome they are.
So here’s to…
…impromptu jam sessions in a living room way too small for a drum set, let alone a full band
…Nescafe Bend 43 with a dash of Lisa’s love that makes the coffee taste better than when I make it myself
…a kettle that is always full, always hot, always pouring
…a cold beer, great food on the grill, and a perfect bohemian picnic porch
…a porch swing that has absorbed many troubles and joys in its grains
…an endless flow of creativity and talent in every art form and musical instrument
…an equally endless flow of kindness and hospitality
...and thank you.
